A Critique of Gunther Pauli’s The Blue Economy Theory. 2017 Edition
Abstract
The blue economy is an innovative theory by Günter Pauli that proposes sustainable development based on local resources, without waste and debt. This eco-oriented model has attracted a lot of attention, especially in critical environmental and energy conditions. However, the blue economy also faces criticisms, including the difficulty of fully implementing it in industry. A proper understanding of this model prevents misinvestments and can provide practical solutions for local businesses. Also, this theory needs to be reinterpreted in the context of Generation Z and Alpha, a generation that is tied to technology, environmental concerns, and digital innovation. The blue economy will only be effective if it provides the tools, as well as inspiration, to the next generation.
